Good Song production
The song starts in a kind of 80's mood. Maybe a bit on the long side if the transition is going over to dance.
Rock the bass sample is pretty corny. But most of all very dated.
Lyrics are a question of taste. They are simple but that doesn;t have to be a bad thing. The only thing you will have to watch out for is using exact the same sample of tell me why. The ear hears that.
Equalizing the vocals is based on choice mostly.
The way it is eq'ed now leaves a pretty thin vocal performance.
Not that this is bad. This has been done in dance. To give the voice a bit more thickness i would add a bit more of the lower frequences in EQ.
You could play with the balance in the stereo image.
everything is centered and then set to very broad. It works but often it is very good for the ear to set some synth or sample to the left or right.
As you can hear in the beginning where you use an older sample that sample immediately has a shaker in the left ear.
The production in total is near proffessional it is solid and good!
The stuff above are details. Things you can think of when you work on a song.
Making music involves a million choices in each song and out of these you naild 95% of the choices you made.
In terms of lyrics.
Tell me why did you have to go away
Tell me why i still miss you everyday.
My opinion on this is very precise the lyrics must be simple yet say more with little. I have some examples on powerfull yet simple lyrics.
May surprise you but in 'in the Ghetto' from elvis there is a sentence that explains all without saying anything in detail:
Then one night in desperation
a young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
tries to run, but he don't get far
And his mama cries
That part: and his mama cries
is used through out the song it is simple and each time it is used it has a different meaning because it tells something else each time.
But it tells all. To me it now says: he got caught by the police and was killed in a gunfight.
Before that this it sung:
As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin' A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
'cause if there's one thing that she don't need it's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto
It says mamma can't be happy with her newborn because she lives in poverty.
Simple words with depper meaning.
That is the power of words.
But they need to be simple to be understood
I like what you did and hope this will help you in choices.
